Sarah Wilks, Health Inequalities Lead for iGPC PCN and member of HPFSS writes that our Liverpool-based Primary Care Network has just begun a campaign to raise awareness of the problems with screens for children and young people. We have recently launched our first poster campaign focused on the importance of sleep and how this is impacted by screen use. We are highlighting the recommendations for sleep, and introducing the idea that screens outside of bedrooms overnight should be the norm. This idea may take some time to catch on, but just like it has now become normal for people to go outside to smoke, we believe the message can be heard. These posters will be displayed in GP waiting roomsand offered to local schools and clinics, too. There will be two further rounds of posters over the coming months, as well as a leaflet aimed at new parents to be given out at 6-8 week baby checks and immunisation appointments. These posters and leaflets are one strand of a larger project whereby we are engaging and educating within schools, and educating our own clinical and non-clinical staff.
